Fiber Installation Overview

What to Expect During a Fiber Internet Installation

A fiber-to-the-home installation is a straightforward process designed to minimize disruption during setup.

Before Installation

Technicians will first locate existing utilities (water, gas, electric) to ensure everything is installed safely. The installation path is planned in advance to avoid unnecessary digging or damage to landscaping.

Bringing Fiber to Your Home

A very narrow trench (just a few inches wide) is dug to the home to run the fiber optic cable.

Grass, soil, or pavement disturbance is minimal. Any disturbed areas are restored after installation.

It is not an open trench. There is no risk of falling in.

A small, weather-sealed fiber box is mounted on the outside of the home. This box serves as the connection point between the underground fiber line and the equipment inside your house

A small hole is drilled through an exterior wall to bring the fiber inside the building.

This hole is sealed and weather-proofed. Inside, the technician installs a compact device (an Optical Network Terminal or ONT) that converts the fiber signal for use with your home network.

Time and Disruption

Most installations are completed in a few hours. Noise and equipment use are limited to the installation window

After Installation

Any affected areas of the yard or driveway are restored as closely as possible to their original condition.

After a short period of regrowth, the installation path becomes nearly invisible.
